Who Are The Students?

     An educationally disadvantaged student is a student who, for a variety or reasons, is not ready for the rigors of a collegiate program.

Reasons for unpreparedness include:

  • the student did not take a college prep program in high school;
  • the student dropped out of high school;
  • the student is an older adult returning to academics after an extended absence;
  • the student has a learning disability (not always documented);
  • the student placed into non-credit bearing courses; the student has a combination of the above reasons.

     Educationally Disadvantaged students do not fit one mold. They vary in their degree of preparedness, their motivation, and their life goals. However, given the proper assistance and encouragement, these students can succeed at college level work. The goal of our committee is to foster the success of these students.
